Joel Friedman, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who has worked in Southern New Jersey as a clinical psychologist for over 25 years. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1992 from the California School of Professional Psychology, and completed an APA-accredited internship in Clinical Psychology at Bellevue Hospital/New York University Medical Center in New York City. He also holds a Master’s Degree from The New School for Social Research.

Dr. Friedman has worked in a wide variety of settings, including outpatient practices, schools, hospitals and correctional facilities. Before joining the Temenos Center, he was the Director of Outpatient Services for a large behavioral health practice for over 20 years. While he has continually worked as a therapist throughout his career, he is excited to join the Temenos Center and focus on providing therapy to individuals, couples and families.

His clinical interests include working with individuals with anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, mood disorders and personality disorders. He also works with couples and families who are interested in improving their relationships.
Dr. Friedman combines cognitive behavioral techniques with a strong commitment to a compassionate understanding of those who wish to make changes in their lives. He encourages his clients to put into action the concepts and techniques discussed in therapy sessions in order to reach their therapeutic goals.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Friedman has been asked to provide presentations on topics such as depression, anxiety disorder, suicide prevention and the use of telehealth in the treatment of mental health problems. He was a founding member of the Camden County Mental Health Task Force as well as the Camden County Partnership for Suicide Prevention. He received an Innovator Award from the New Jersey Crisis Intervention Team Center for Excellence. He teaches a course on mental health treatment in the criminal justice system at Rowan University.
